In Parliament, the Water Minister, the Hon Don Punch MLA, admitted that residents in Chidlow are “clearly receiving a service that is not in accordance with the water services licence.”

As a result, Water Corporation has now agreed to fully cover the cost of providing tanks and pressure pumps for affected households.

This is a powerful moment for the families who’ve been fighting to be heard. I’ve been raising this issue in Parliament on their behalf, and I’m proud to have played a part in helping deliver this outcome.

For too long, hardworking people have paid their rates and taxes while enduring a substandard and unreliable water supply. Residents have told me of frequent outages—especially between 4pm and 10pm—leaving them without enough pressure to bathe, flush toilets, or even fill a glass of water.

This isn’t just about low water pressure. It’s about health, dignity, and fairness. The Minister’s admission confirms what locals have known for years: this situation isn’t acceptable, and it doesn’t meet basic service standards.

While I welcome the Government’s commitment to fund immediate support, it’s not enough. We need long-term solutions that restore trust and ensure basic services for everyone.

Chidlow has led the charge—but the same problems exist in nearby areas like Wooroloo. This can’t be solved with a patchwork approach.

Here’s what we’re fighting for next:

  • A reliable, future-proof supply model that doesn’t rely on fragile trunklines

  • Consistent water pressure restored in Wooroloo and surrounding areas

  • Replacement, not just patching, of degraded infrastructure

  • A return to standard water agreements for all affected households

  • Comprehensive data logging to properly diagnose and fix the problem

This is a win—but it’s not the finish line.

We’ve shown that when a community comes together and demands action, government has to listen. Now, we need to keep the pressure on to ensure lasting, fair, and reliable water security for every household.

Let’s keep going.
